Patient Education Customization

Patient Education on MD Consult can be customized in two different ways. These are by adding contact information and special instructions.

Adding Contact Information

Institutions and individuals can add contact information to patient education. This information will appear and print out with each handout.

Institutional Accounts

Institutional accounts with a shared login can have the institutions contact information added to the patient education handouts.

Once entered, the contact information will be printed at the top of each handout.

To have your institution contact information added, please contact IES Technical Support at IESTechSupport@elsevier.com.

Individual Users

Individual practitioners who have their own login to an institutional account, or who have their own subscription; can add their own contact information.

As a user with a personal login, there are two ways you can add your contact information to patient education.

Note: Your registration information used as the default contact information on patient education handouts.

  • Adding your contact information in “My Account”
    • Login to MD Consult
    • Select the “My Account” link in the right upper corner.
    • Select the “Preferences” tab.
    • Select the “Customize Patient Handouts” link.
    • Enter your personal information and click on “Submit”
  • Adding your contact information while in Patient Education
    • Login to MD Consult
    • Select the “Patient Education” tab.
    • Open a patient education handout.
    • Select the “Customize” information in the right column.
    • Enter your personal information and click on “Submit”

Once entered, the contact information will be printed at the top of each handout.

Adding Special Instructions

Individual practitioners who have their own login to an institutional account, or who have their own subscription: can add special instructions for a specific patient to a patient education handout.

If you have additional information you would like to provide a specific patient, you can add them prior to printing the handout.

To add the special instructions:

  • Login to MD Consult
  • Select the ‘Patient Education’ tab.
  • Open a patient education handout.
  • Enter the instructions in the ‘Special Instructions’ text box on the right and click on ‘Save Special Instructions’.
  • Select the ‘Print Version’ button on the right and print. The instructions will be displayed at the bottom of the handout.

To remove the special instructions from the handout; remove the instructions from the text box and click on “Save Special Instructions.”

Caution: Patient Information is confidential and protected by HIPAA Privacy regulations. Do not enter any patient-sensitive information into the Special Instructions area.
