MD Consult now provides free official MARC 21 records for all of the books, journals, and Clinics in our Standard Subscription, as well as for all available MD Consult eBooks.

These records are ready to load into your local library catalog and will help increase discoverability of your MD Consult books, journals, and Clinics, thereby increasing usage of these valuable resources.
The MARC 21 records for the books, journals, and Clinics on MD Consult are available free of charge through OCLC.
Ordering the MD Consult MARC 21 records is easy:
- Download the OCLC order form
- Select the MD Consult Collection sets you wish to order
- Fax the order form directly to OCLC
Usage Reports
MD Consult provides usage reports to our institutional administrators so they know how their end-users are utilizing the resources available to them.

These reports are delivered monthly to your inbox in one convenient Excel workbook containing the following information:
- Content Overview: Overview of pages viewed on the site by content group (e.g. Books, Journals, News, etc.)
- Journal Detail: Full-text page views by journal title
- Book Detail: Full-text book page views by title
- Sessions Overview: Total visits per month
- First Consult Sessions: Subset of total visits that contain usage of the First Consult product
You can download an example spreadsheet to see a sample of the format of the usage reports and the type of data that is included.

Branding
Institutions have the opportunity to display their sponsorship of MD Consult to their end users whenever they access the product.

Institutions can add either a logo or text to display their sponsorship. A URL can also be associated with the logo or text that will take the end user to the organization’s internal website.
3 Easy Steps to add Branding:
- Create a logo or text according to appropriate specifications (below)
- Send the logo or text, and any URL associated with it, to our Tech Support team at USInfo@Elsevier.com
- You will be notified when the brand is in place
Logo Specifications:
Image type: gif or jpg
Width: up to 175 pixels
Height: up to 35 pixels
Background: Transparent or anti-aliased on whiteText Specifications:
Include or omit "Provided by" or "Sponsored by"
One line of text, up to 25 characters (including spaces and punctuation)
Open URL Linking
MD Consult institutional accounts with Link Resolvers have the option to link to journal articles or journal article search results

With this feature, the links send the article information to the link resolver, which then determines whether the article is included in the institution's holdings. The institution can choose to use text or an image for the link. A link is displayed on the search results page and/or the journal abstract page.
Contact IES Technical Support at IESTechSupport@elsevier.com to add Open URL linking to your account. They will need the following information:
- URL for the link
- Text or graphic you want used for the linking
- Graphic should be in GIF format
- Graphic maximum dimensions:
For search results link- 80px wide X 25px high
For article abstract page link- 250px wide X 250px high
- Open URL version used by your link resolver (1.0, 0.9, or 0.1)
Linking to MD Consult
MD Consult institutional users can customize access to MD Consult content with direct links for the institution's existing internal website.

With the use of durable URLs to retrieve specific content or to initiate a search, customizing access is easy. Institutions can add links to the most frequently used content, or highlight specific content for a specialty service. For example, if there is a section on your internal website that is devoted to the Anesthesia department; add a link to Miller's Anesthesia on MD Consult.

Alerts
MD Consult offers email alerts to let you know when a journal or Clinics has a new issue, a preferred topic is in a new journal article, or a First Consult medical topic has been updated. Learn more about Alerts at FAQ/Alerts
Customizing Patient Handouts
Patient Education Handouts on MD Consult can be easily customized to include physician contact information, as well as special instructions for patients.

Adding Contact Information
- Login to MD Consult
- Select the "My Account" link in the right upper corner
- Select the "Preferences" tab
- Select the "Customize Patient Handouts" link
- Enter your personal information and click on "Submit"
Or
- Log in to MD Consult
- Select the "Patient Education" tab
- Open a patient education handout
- Select the "Customize" information in the right column
- Enter your personal information and click on "Submit"
Contact information will be printed at the top of each handout.

Note: Registration information is used as the default contact information on patient education handouts.
Adding Special Instructions
- Log in to MD Consult
- Select the 'Patient Education' tab
- Open a patient education handout
- Enter the instructions in the 'Special Instructions' and/or ‘Follow-Up’ text boxes on the right and click on 'Save'
- Select the 'Print' button on the right to preview or print
- After ‘Save’, you may enter your patient’s name into the text box on the right, and select ‘Print’ to preview or print. This is optional, the patient’s name will not be stored. If you select ‘Save’ again after entering a patient’s name, the entry will be removed.
To remove the special instructions from the handout, clear the instructions from the text boxes, and click "Save."
Instructions will be displayed at the top of the handout.
Caution: Patient Information is confidential and protected by HIPAA Privacy regulations. Do not enter any patient-identifiable information into the Special Instructions or Follow-up Instructions area.
Customizing the News Feed
Users can customize the News page to see the latest news about a particular specialty area, so you can be sure that you are getting the news that is most relevant to you.

- Click the News tab in the Navigation Bar
- Click “Customize Specialties” found under “My Top Specialty Stories”
- Select the specialties of interest to you
- Click “Submit” to save your changes and complete your customization
Or
- Click “My Account” above the top navigation bar
- Select the “Preferences” tab
- Click “Customize News”
- Select the specialties of interest to you
- Click “Submit” to save your changes and complete your customization
Selected specialties will be displayed at the top of the news page.
Note: We have already entered one specialty for you based on your registration information. To remove this selection, simply clear the box next to the specialty.
